CONTEMPORARY CLASSIC

THE BRIEF

This Tunbridge Wells family had outgrown their small kitchen and were looking to create a new hardworking space that would withstand the test of two growing boys! They needed a practical family kitchen which would also transform into an elegant entertaining space.

THE SOLUTION

Ample storage was key to enabling the uncluttered look they desired.  With limited wall area in their new extension,

due to the expanse of windows which allow light to flood in, an unusual L-shape island was devised, making the best use of the room's long, narrow proportions.  This provides plenty of prep surface area for cooking and baking, a breakfast bar for the boys to eat at and is also a great feature for guests to gather around.

A breakfast cupboard with bi-folding door enables everyday appliances to be readily available but kept neatly hidden away.

THE STYLE DETAIL

These clients wanted a classic look which would stand the test of time.  To make the most of the light, the tall cabinets were painted in Farrow & Ball Cornforth White with walls in Ammonite.

The island in Farrow and Ball Stiffkey Blue adds a dramatic yet elegant feel.

White Novaestone Star Dust Quartz with a delicate sparkle creates a stunning and practical worktop to the French navy island.  Cup handles and knobs in polished nickel and glass pendant lights complete this bright but understated look.

PRACTICAL DETAILS

As keen cooks for family and friends, these clients were looking for maximum oven space without compromise.  We therefore specified two full size Neff ovens and a 5 burner Neff Induction hob to provide plenty of capacity for casseroles, roasts and bakes.

The island comprises a variety of storage solutions to meet all their needs.  From standard drawers for utensils and basic meal-prep equipment, to deep drawers for dried goods with internal drawers for spices, plus a corner pull out system to maximise the efficiency of this L-shaped island.
