ELEGANT INDUSTRIAL

THE BRIEF

This family in Tunbridge Wells had bought their forever home and their dream was for the kitchen to sit at the heart of it.  On our recommendation, our clients worked with architects to remodel the layout of their new home and create the right flow between the rooms of the ground floor.  Our clients were looking for a true cook's' kitchen which would also be a fabulous family and entertaining space.  On the wish list was a large island and they wanted to add an Industrial, but not stark, feel to the French Country style they love.

THE SOLUTION

We situated the pewter coloured AGA at the heart of this kitchen and created ample prep and storage space to either side and on the island opposite.  The generous room proportions accommodate a statement island and the use of symmetry throughout creates the balanced and considered feel our clients wanted to achieve.

The island features an antiqued oak plank breakfast bar wrapped around a quartz worktop which, with the AGA behind, creates the centre of the cooks zone.  The oak adds warmth and creates an inviting area to sit at, focused around the heart of this kitchen.

THE STYLE DETAIL

This large room benefits from dual aspect windows and three doorways bringing light from all directions, so using a deep colour on the cabinetry throughout pulls the room together and establishes the Industrial feel.

To reflect our clients love of green, we selected Farrow & Ball Studio Green and love the way it changes throughout the day from rich green to inky, decadent tones.  Walls, ceiling and woodwork in Farrow & Ball Strong White provide a cohesive backdrop for the scheme.

The exposed brick wall and black vintage pendant lights add to the Industrial edge while the colourful tiled splashback brings character.

Luxurious styling with exquisite joinery means that the practical essentials, such as dishwasher and large integrated bins, do not detract from the composition.  Here they are styled to match the drawers beside them, creating one elegant piece of furniture along the South wall.

Character is added with the distinctive ribbed front sink. Raw brass cup handles and cabinet knobs will age and develop a patina over time to tie in with the aged brass tap.  Blinds in a stylised tulip print are a nod to the Dutch Colonial Revival architecture of the house and add a softening finishing touch.

PRACTICAL DETAILS

The AGA is at the centre of this cook's kitchen; however for all year round cooking we specified the addition of a full size oven, combination oven and induction hob.

Worktops in Novaestone Bianca Carrara Quartz provide the best solution for the clients' love of natural materials, with all the look of marble but practicality of quartz.

Two alcoves at the far end of the room were customised to accommodate an American Fridge / Freezer with surrounding attractive wine and book storage in one and a bespoke pantry with wine fridge and cold shelf in the other.  For this practical room to easily transform into uncluttered entertaining space, we specified two full height worktop cupboards for stand mixer, small appliances and coffee machines.
